Topics That Came Up
Use Notepad to work on a bib. When time is not on our side and catalogers need to create a new record, we can copy the template from Evergreen and fill it in on Notepad.
Notepad will not try to insert formats or spelling suggestions, making it ‘easier’ to work with than Word or Excel when reinserting the data back into the template.
Copy and paste the completed record from Notepad back into the Evergreen template.
Double check your format and validate your entries in the Enhanced MARC editor and save the record.
Look at the patron view to ‘read’ the displayed entries as the patron sees them – put yourself in the patron’s shoes.
Use the UPC from the manufacturer’s website for 024.
Do NOT use an SKU – stock keeping unit
SKU could be added elsewhere as a general note if the cataloger feels it is an added or necessary way to identify the item.
264 for manufacturer and/or owning library
264 — For manufacturers: Use city and state if possible. Enter the date first available in brackets [20XX]’s if no copyright date is available.
264 — Catalogers can use owning library’s city and state when cataloging an LoT (kit-like) item with the current date.
=264 \3$aMaupin, OR :$bSouthern Wasco County Library ;$c2023.
=264 \1$aPalm Bay, Florida :$bEnsoul Music Designs ;$c[2014] (location was spelled out on website)
When all else fails:
=264 \3$a[Place of distribution/manufacture not identified] :$b[Independently published or Publisher not identified],$c[date]
Fixed field entry for multiple dates
Use DtSt p for kits/LoT records with dual 264s
Date1 = date of distribution/release/issue
Date2 = date of production/recording session when different
Copyright would get the 264 second indicator 4. Then the DtSt would be t.
300 field: per OCLC/RDA instructions – use fractions for entries if less than an inch, rather than decimals.
$c36 1/4 x 8 3/4 x 5 1/4 in.
650 subdivisions
As per usual, Jon has supplied Sage with the necessary tools we need – the H1095 Free-floating subdivisions alphabetical and printable list can be found on our staff cataloging resource page and here: H 1095 Free-Floating Subdivisions (loc.gov)
Thanks Jon!
