Minutes of Sage Council Meeting
November 21, 2006
Present: Chair Shirley, Karen, Aletha, Heidi, Beth, Myra, Ken, Marsha, Shannon, Mary Finney, Jolyn, Jackie, Jean, Jo (recorder)
Draft Five Year Financial Plan 2007-2012
Shirley reported that in January the council will begin to develop the 2007-08 budget, and will continue discussion of the plan at that time.
She pointed out three areas of potential increase.
- Save for new server. Sage libraries have not paid for a server in 14 years, but will have to do so in about 5 years.
- Budget for increasing hours, if needed, for soon-to-be-hired staff.
- Budget travel expenses for Beth to visit all Sage libraries.
Changes in Sage Participation
Beth and Shirley visited librarians representing southeast Washington to educate them on the workings of the Sage system. No follow-up yet.
Wheeler County consultant approached Shirley with plan for potential ‘virtual library.’ Complicated issue, no action yet.
Courier Stabilization
Received grant, so we’re stable.
Resource Sharing
Beth is receiving positive responses from ILL circ sites.
Self checkout
Hermiston is the guinea pig and will begin working with Beth immediately to install the module. Others will follow as local budgets allow. Cost: $3200 for station license and maintenance charge annually ($58 per month divided by number of participants + $32 per month for each participant).
Election of New Chair
Ken moved, Aletha seconded the nomination of Marsha to be Chair until next October. Unanimously approved. (We THINK Marsha voted ‘yes.’)
Govdocs
Karen moved, Ken seconded the following proposal:
“Item record for online government documents received by Pierce Library, EOU, will contain the location code applicable to those documents at EOU, but will be scoped into each library’s catalog and will be available to all Sage patrons from their home library. The online government document item records will not be applied to any library’s record count for membership fee calculation.”
Unanimously approved.
Hiring Sage Personnel
Shirley, Beth, Katrina, and Jo are on the search/hiring committee. Interviews will be scheduled soon. Karen and Jo have been through EOU’s ethics training so are qualified to serve on such committees.
Membership Changes
Wallow Public and Heppner and Riverside High Schools are potential withdrawals from the Sage system. Consensus was that the council will adhere to the rules defined in the Memorandum of Agreement, requiring payment and notice of intent.
