35:00 Subject Headings:
From August discussion – Medical, French, Agricultural, and Canadian subject heading indicators and $2 source codes:
MeSH subject headings have their own second indicator of ‘2’ – they do not require the $2source tag like the second indicator 7 entries require: (Side note: Sources are lower case in the $2subfield)
=650 \2$aBlood Pressure Monitors. (correct entry for the MeSH thesaurus)
=650 \7$aBlood Pressure Monitors.$2mesh (not wrong, but overrides the nicety of the assigned second indicator)
This is why you will also see French (second indicator 6) sourced in a second indicator 7 with the $2rvm French thesaurus code.
=650 \6$aCinéma$xHistoire$y20e siècle$vAnthologies.
=650 \7$aCinéma$xHistoire$x20e siècle$xAnthologies.$2rvm
By default – the same ‘patterns’ will appear in the genres, but with genre thesauri sourcing.
I am hoping they assign Spanish headings their own second indicator, soon.
Please contact a mentor when deciding to use a thesaurus besides LoC for the correct field and if sourcing is needed.
Funny enough, when using the Marc field search tab, using the correct subfield number (in the video example I was trying to use the second indicator ‘7’ for the subfield entry :/ ) will get better results *head thump*
I caught it on the video and that is why it was unable to find subfield $2mesh.
Here’s what it looks like when done correctly
Jon emailed a follow-up letting us know that we only need the Tag and Value entries for the search
43:36 H1095 free floating subdivisions are available on the Sage cataloging resources page
$xEquipment and supplies – can be used under disciplines
