Meeting was called to order by Cheryl Hancock at 1 pm.
There was some discussion on Wiki. Janet Koda indicated that her school banned this site. She is going to talk to them to see if she can have it for her use to get information from Sage.
There was some talk about training. Sage at this time has no budget for cataloging training.
When we go on Evergreen, there will be some training available.
Some catalogers are correcting minor errors and flagging records where needed.
It was suggested that Beth run a list on flagged items. It also was suggested not to fix the mistakes so that catalogers could see where the problem was.
Communication is a major issue. How does it take place…
We really need to identify our issues with cataloging before we go into Evergreen.
There was a discussion on how to stop people who are making the mistakes in cataloging. It was believed that centralized cataloging was not the answer. There has to be some other way and other options. Beth suggested CatExpress as a possible alternative.
There was concern that not all Cat Express records are good.
Cheryl indicated that looking at the records, she and Laurie noticed that cataloging needed help. There was a cataloging meeting in Ontario earlier and it was discussed that policies were needed. Cheryl then sent a proposal to the Sage Council.
They suggested that the cataloging committee work with the proposal.
Basically this meeting is to get the proposal where we want it and get approval.
See attached proposal from meeting submitted by Cheryl Hancock.
l. Laurie suggested meeting every other month. This may be too much. Beth suggested keeping the listserv active.
Katrina asked who determines the level of cataloging. Certified or copy. Copy cataloger is under certified cataloger.
The cataloging committee set up regional representatives from different areas for the catalogers to get help.
Training was discussed. There is no money in the budget at this time. There may be some money later.
People were wondering how much time Beth spends on cleaning up records.
Beth says she may spend several days working on these. Beth indicated that there is grant money for Evergreen training and we may be able to incorporate some cataloging training at the same time.
It was decided to set up regional people for help with cataloging.
These were Dea for Morrow and Umatilla Counties,
Laurie- Grant –Lake-Harney
Katrina-Union-Baker-Wallowa
Christina-Malheur-Gilliam-Wheeler.
We have set up regional areas and the committee will set up cat. Expertise.
Respond to emails and be sure the listserv is updated
It was suggested to add a line item for cataloging training on the Sage Budget starting next year. We will submit this request to the Sage Council.
Each library needs to be responsible for their cataloging.
The Proposal will go to Sage Council for the May 7 meeting in Burns.
General issues have been worked on.
We formed a cataloging committee.
We have a chair and a co-chair for cataloging.
These are Laurie from Harney (Chair) and Lindy(co-chair) from Baker.
Our next meeting will be June 7, 2010 at 10 am pacific time via polycom.
Series, RDA Standards ($395 a year for the manual).
Watch and be aware that migration is coming.
Past Perfect was discussed.
The idea of holding a local Book Blitz class was discussed. Each library would be responsible for the staff training cost.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:35.
